Joe McCann joins Blockasset as Lead Strategic Advisor- Announcement
Entrepreneur, Technologist, Algorithmic Trader, Investor, Risk Taker and NFT Collector are some of the noun forms that can be used to describe Joe McCann. That NFT Collector part is how most of us have known him so far, but let’s take a deep dive into the amazing world of Joe.
While pursuing his Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy major, Joe created a mindset of continuous learning and developed an eye to spot innovation. Joe has been an entrepreneur since he was 18 years old but eventually started trading on Wall Street in 2006. After making the prediction that manual trading would move to machines and algorithms, Joe left Wall Street and began his full-time career in the tech industry joining an early-stage startup in 2008 and within 4 years becoming the CTO at the #1 ad agency in New York City. Shortly thereafter, Joe Co-founded NodeSource, the Node.js company. Node.js is the biggest and most popular open-source project of the last decade has gained adoption from 100% of the Fortune 500. Joe sold this business in 2019.
Currently, Joe is Senior Director at Microsoft in the Cloud + AI organisation helping drive Strategy around emerging technology such as Web3 and NFTs. Joe is an avid collector of NFTs and can be found rocking a Legend or Solana Monkey Business NFT as his profile picture across various social media platforms, having been involved with SMB’s MonkeDAO since day 1; talk about being an OG!
Joe is a risk-taker. In terms of investments, the risk is defined as the probability or likelihood of occurrence of losses relative to the expected return on any particular investment. But according to Joe’s Twitter bio, Risk-taking is the purest form of virtue. Early detection of upside potential has helped Joe stay ahead of the curve and made his investment decisions look like blatant use of time travel. Fun Fact: Joe’s great appetite for taking risks motivated him to get “Risk” tattooed on his right wrist!
In October we flew Joe over from America to meet the team in Liverpool and it was the first time he watched his beloved Manchester United at Old Trafford. Sadly for Joe, it wasn’t the result he wanted as Liverpool beat them 5–0, however it was an amazing weekend as we also flew over Nikolai Onken, another key advisor. As you can see by the smiles in the photo this was before the game! Here’s to many more brilliant times as we embark on this special journey together.
