Interim UFC Bantamweight Champion Petr Yan joins Blockasset

Petr Yan fights Aljamain Sterling for the Bantamweight title on April 9th

Petr Yan Announcement Another one of the best pound for pound fighters in the world is joining the Blockasset community. A warm welcome to the current UFC interim bantamweight champion of the world, Petr Yan. He will be partnering with Blockasset to release his official NFT collection as well as personal athlete social token on the Blockasset platform. Petr will be fighting on April 9th, in Jacksonville at UFC 273 to recapture the undisputed championship against Aljamain Sterling.

Petr’s Background
Petr “No Mercy” Yan began training to fight when he was a boy, eventually earning the rank of “Master of Sport” in boxing. It wasn’t long until he began training MMA full time and started his illustrious career. He fought primarily in the Absolute Championship Berkut (ACB) for his pro career prior to joining the UFC, becoming their bantamweight champion.

In 2018 he signed with the UFC, winning his debut by knockout. He would go on to start his UFC career 5–0 when he matched up with legendary fighter Urijah Faber on the UFC 245 pay per view card. He won the fight via a devastating head kick KO, setting himself up as the number 1 contender in the stacked bantamweight division. When future Hall of Famer Henry Cejudo retired from the UFC after defending the bantamweight title, Yan met another future Hall of Famer Jose Aldo for the vacant, undisputed title.

When the two finally squared off in the UFC octagon, it ultimately was a one-sided affair that Yan won by TKO. With the win, Petr became the first Siberian UFC champion, an honour he proudly holds with him. In his first title defence, Yan faced off against Aljamain Sterling at UFC 259 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. After dominating the fight for 4 rounds, he kneed Sterling while he was down, resulting in a disqualification loss and subsequent loss of the title. Yan then was scheduled to face Sterling in a rematch at UFC 267 in Abu Dhabi, but Sterling couldn’t compete. Yan instead faced Cory Sandhagen for the interim championship title, where he defeated him in a 5 round thriller and recaptured UFC gold around his waist. Now nothing was standing in the way of him and the undisputed belt.

What’s ahead now for Petr Yan is a rematch with Aljamain Sterling at UFC 273 in Jacksonville, Florida for the undisputed bantamweight title. Not to mention, his NFT collection and personal social token will be released on the Blockasset platform very soon.
