Happy New Year and welcome to the first Blockasset weekly newsletter of 2023!

Throughout the festive period, the team at Blockasset has been reflecting on what was a huge year for the project in 2022.

Here are a few of the standouts from a very memorable twelve months:

Media

We’re incredibly proud of the content that we release, and throughout 2022 our YouTube channel amassed 12,394,460 views in total. That’s more than 772,000 hours of watch time, which works out to be around 90 years’ worth of Blockasset content consumed in 2022 on YouTube alone.

Our Smesh Bros. content led the way for views, but our Block Access videos with other athletes, and our Block Party live stream series was enjoyed by users from across 205 different countries, meaning that Blockasset’s reach truly was global throughout 2022.

Of course, the hard work doesn’t end here. Our YouTube channel is currently on the cusp of 90,000 subscribers — with the 100k subscriber plaque in our sights!

We’ll continue to provide our community with world-class athlete content throughout 2023.

Talent

Our ever-growing roster of athletes enjoyed an incredibly successful 2022, with the likes of Alex Pereira, Leon Edwards and Deiveson Figueiredo becoming UFC Champions, Brendan Loughnane becoming a PFL World Champion, and Oleksandr Usyk defending his World Heavyweight title, too.

Our Talent team has done a fantastic job of recruiting some of the most exciting prospects in MMA, and will continue their hard work throughout 2023, as we look to sign as many of the world’s elite athletes as possible.

With a number of Blockasset athletes scheduled to participate at UFC 283 in Rio de Janeiro on January 21, we’ll be starting the New Year in a BIG way.

Community

As always, our loyal community proved to be the heartbeat of Blockasset, helping the project through some challenging market conditions.

The above image shows some key metrics from our main Discord channel, where the conversation has been going strong throughout 2022 with almost 1.2m messages.

It’s also important to highlight the word cloud in the image above. We’re grateful to have such a welcoming, positive and inclusive community — so if you’re not in our Discord yet, join us here.

Marketing

At Blockasset, our Marketing function is truly a team effort — including the work of our athletes. We’re proud to look back on a year which has seen Blockasset featured in some of the world’s biggest media titles, such as The Guardian, Sky News, ESPN, New York Post, the Daily Mail and many more.

Throughout 2022, we welcomed 304,498 new unique users to our main website, with more than 3.9m events tracked throughout the year, building a contact database of approximately 80,000 users.

When it comes to social media, Blockasset content was seen over 46.3m times on Twitter, our Instagram page reached 10.8m unique users with strong engagement on both (96k likes on Twitter content, 123k likes on Instagram content). Our media team also helped us to almost 5m views on TikTok, where we ended the year with 18k followers.

Having reached the milestone of 10k+ unique $BLOCK holders in December, our Marketing team is focused on educating and onboarding new users with a new $BLOCK marketing campaign starting next week.

Product

Our Product team was at the forefront of innovation throughout 2022, releasing a multitude of new platforms and keeping our website fresh and easy to use, whilst working on our MVP athlete token platform in the background.

Since its launch in July, our BLAZE platform has burned almost 750k $BLOCK and more than 5.5m $ASSET, and in December, our product team pushed our brand new staking platform live.

Our Product team will continue to be at the centre of our success throughout 2023, as we look to completely revolutionise fan engagement in sport with the release of our MVP athlete token platform.

Of course, there were many other highlights (too many to list here), but we enter 2023 in a strong position, with our MVP athlete token platform now closer to release than ever. Blockasset will be at the epicentre of what promises to be the year of the athlete token.

AOB

On December 23, Blockasset Legend, Alexander Ovechkin, further cemented his legacy as one of the greatest ice hockey players in history by surpassing Gordie Howe’s career total of 801 NHL goals.

To celebrate this feat, we have been working on a special surprise to coincide with the Great Eight’s ongoing chase of Wayne Gretsky’s infamous record of 894 NHL goals. Watch this space!
